UI

During searches for codes and examples for BriefCase, found out that (from my observations) the UI most implemented on the application is a source-view type. What is this? You can see this type in Mail.app, iTunes, iCal and many other software out there that implement this kind of UI. I think it is more simple yet intuive and show less crowded interface. I might be opt for that UI in my next BriefCase client for mac but who knows what will happen. Anyhow, managed to have that kind of interface but without functions yet. Hmm.. see here for some of screenshot of the application that uses that kind of interface.

Apple Final Cut Studio 2 & Final Cut Server Seminar

Yesterday, I got the opportunity to attend a free seminar on introduction to Final Cut Server and Final Cut Studio 2. They explain how the system should work and for me, it was something but I don’t see it has any place right now for us. What attracted us most was when the speaker touch on Final Cut Studio. It’s really motivated me again to do video editing when seeing what they can do with Motion, Color and Final Cut Pro to the video. It seems sooo easy yet resulting in a professional end result. In the old days, I did try using Adobe Premier which known to be good but they have complicated UI (maybe because I didn’t have the opportunity to see people show it to me how to use, ;p). Anyway, the seminar yesterday was quite informative and inspired me to see by myself how I can do to my videos with those things.

Documentum

I’ve been asked to do some research to see what is Documentum is. From my initial search, I found that Documentum is an engine for Enterprise Content Management. Documentum is owned by a company EMC² that provide high end hardware for enterprise data storage system.

The emc.com home page is your gateway to the vast array of EMC products and services to help you create, manage, store, and protect all your organization’s information.

http://malaysia.emc.com

It seems like large company are using them to reliably store organization’s information as they are well known for such services. To my astonishment, the company also owned VMWare (as of my reading and was told that) and many more products. In Malaysia, the company seems to have been giving services to vast majority of companies and I am not going to reveal the names as I am not quite sure of my memory right now and at this moment, and I don’t want to give false information on that.

Documentum support .NET framework, meaning that I can developed my application on ASP and Visual Basic. It also vastly support JAVA though I am not very into it but I don’t see (during this initial searches) of it supporting Objective-C programming in Mac. Mostly what I’ve seen until now is mostly project examples done in Visual Basic and Google Web Toolkit (GWT)

Here I found some information on what Documentum is http://d4d2.com/?p=29. His website has most of information for Documentum and mainly targeted to non-geek reader like the name suggested “Documentum for Dummies”. I’m not quite finished exploring the website thus I’m not in the position to summarize the content of it.

Oh.. before I forgot, here’s the link (http://developer.emc.com/developer/challenge/D6_contest.htm) for the previous contest for developers on Documentum 6. Here is where I found out some of the projects that were done with VB.NET and GWT. You may see there other applications that are used to the developed the front-end for Documentum 6 such as application from Adobe and Window Mobile. Anyhow, I am still not in the situation, again, to explain on their system because I’m only have covered two of them.

Till now, the information I have was not enough yet for me to conclude whether I will be developing the next application together with the support from Documentum or not. Thankfully, I have Saifuddin to help me during the Googling in this matter.

Meeting again…

Again the meeting held at Jalan Duta court today resulted in loses on our part as we have to incur all cost to do trial for about 5 month again where for the first 2 months being the training period for our typist and the remaining 3 months will be the trial period of our Briefcase in 3 court in KL.

As for me, the result from this meeting has put me into a situation where I have to, again, crammed my head to start to finish added features (after observation during a week trial period) of Briefcase in a short period of time.

There are two things need to be done. One is fairly easy but the other requires changes on most part of the system in client application, editor and server. The changes might have to be checked and tested throughly again and again as these changes are quite dependent with the other modules in each applications and thus, if there are lost dependencies or references of any of the object, it will result in system crash. These things have been foreseen earlier with designing modular system but yet there are parts here and there where things get too complicated and sometimes things need to be completed immediately but with me being the only programmer (not much trouble) with other things to be considered (this seem to contribute more on the causes. Mostly because I’m still student), the design is left aside and proceed with what come into my mind. Yet, till now, I’m quite satisfied with my work though I realized that if I am to have enough time (full time programmer and not being a student), I would have done better. Everything is there (in my head) but the execution cannot be done properly.

Apart from that, the system run O.K till now but it just how the code was arranged is not as what I prefer and learned. At the end, I hope the system will be beneficial and used by the government.

Briefcase a week trial period test ended today

Hmm… Today is the last day for my friends at Legal Bytes going to court to test Briefcase. Now, they have to submit the report on how the Briefcase perform, so on and so forth. Not to forget, the proposal for the Briefcase. This is not the end but the beginning. From now on, if the proposal been accepted, then it really going to be a hard work for me “again”…

During trial period, it’s discovered that autocorrect is important. Hmm… how i’m gonna do that considering the large database it will hold plus the resources it already used during realtime transcript. Whoaaa…. my hair is getting thinner everyday…!! Caiyookk…
